The opportunity to travel extensively in many parts of the world has granted me the chance to photograph life and culture that I never imagined I would experience.
No matter where I have traveled, I've found people to have the same basic needs and desires. Happiness. Loss. Security. Love. Sadness. The wish for the well-being of their children. And yet each culture has its unique challenges and opportunities. Following are images from some of these unforgettable visits.
The first of these "stories" is inspired by my many trips to China. My wife Debb and I were especially fortunate to live in China for three years. We traveled all over the country: Beijing. Shanghai. Southern China. The Silk Road. And one memorable trip to Tibet, where we camped outside of a monastery, met children in various villages, and learned about the interweaving of politics and religion in the region.
This selection from India includes images primarily from Delhi and Agra. If you have a chance to visit the Taj Mahal, nothing I can describe will prepare you for the awe of seeing it at sunrise. Living conditions in these cities can be difficult, and survival is a challenge for many people. Diversity and contrasts are great. Beauty and grittiness. Hope and despair. Wealth and poverty. My experience is that people are warm and welcoming. I feel fortunate to have made many friends in India, and I thank them for the experiences we have shared.
